Introduction

Hello everyone. I decided to create this journal in the hope of finding people who need writing help. Summers tend to be tough for graduate students since there is very little work available; at the same time, there are many students struggling through summer English classes while tutoring centres are closed, so hopefully some of you will stumble across this journal.

A bit of info about me:
=======================

I have a BA and an MA in English, and I'm currently working on my PhD. Since I've been tutoring all through university and gradschool, I have about 6 years of teaching/tutoring experience under my belt, and I have TA-ed many university-level writing classes (essay writing, business writing, technical writing, ESL). I am patient and positive, I work fast, and I promise high-end results.

Services I offer:
================

- proofreading - a basic grammar/spelling check; small sentence structure changes, but no major alterations or improvements. Proofreading is best for those who already are strong writers in terms of organization, content, and style, but who still struggle with grammar problems.

- thesis proofreading

- editing - more advanced than proofreading; while your ideas are kept unchanged, some sentences would be re-written, paragraphs restructured, organization tightened. This is suitable for beginning writers who need to turn in a polished finished product.

- tutoring - writing, ESL, English Lit., for high-school and college/university

- special help - statements of purpose, application letters, grant proposals, cover letters

NOTE: I will not write essays or any type of documents for you, since it is unethical and unconstructive. I will be more than happy to provide editing help, however, since the core-material will be your own work.

Rates
=====

Proofreading - $5/first 2 pages; $1/each subsequent page

Editing - $10/first 2 pages; $2/each subsequent page up to 15; $1/each page after the 15th

Tutoring - $25/hr - 1 person
$20/hr - 2 persons
$15/hr - 3 persons and up

"Special help" projects are negotiable, depending on how much help you need. The base fee is $20.

MA/PhD theses are also negotiable (we can agree on a project price, rather than going by page).

If you are interested, drop a line at english_tutoring_ottawa@yahoo.ca (only Ottawa, please).
