    Introductory post
    •first name (or nickname): Michael
    •age: 30
    •program: N/A (see below)
    •year: N/A (See below)
•where you're from: North York, which is not Toronto
•where you're living this year: Ottawa
•misc. stuff about yourself: So the short version is that I'm not a UOttawa student. I'm actually a dissertating grad student looking for other dissertating or thesis-writing grad students. Are there any here? If so, would anyone be interested in setting up a subsidiary LJ community, or better yet, an in-person group so that we can do fun things like talking about methodological problems, proofreading each other's chapters, and bitching about absentee advisors (although in my case I'm a bit of an absentee student...)? Anyways, if anyone's out there, and interested, please do post. Thanks!

    Repeating Classes
I have a question regarding something I recall being mentioned to me once. I was told there was a maximum amount of times you could fail the same course without being penalized somehow (in addition to the inevitable F on the transcript and drop in GPA). However, I have searched the Ottawa U website for the last half hour and can't seem to find any 'policy' of the sort.

Does anyone have an idea of the policy I am referring to, and what the consequences would be? I'm also not sure if it's faculty-specific, but I'm in Management if makes a difference.

    Thanks in advance!

    Homeless Kittens
Someone dumped four kittens outside my father's work in the South end of Ottawa. Does anyone want one? I can't take any in and none of the employees can and I've been told the humane society will charge me $100 for each, which I can't afford (if this is wrong, please provide proof. This comes from a relative who apparently brought in two cats before, but they could be wrong).

So does anyone want one? They were abandoned along with the mother, I think.

    Windows 7 Download
Someone in my Marketing class mentioned that Carleton students can download Windows 7 off the university's website for free.

I'm having trouble finding the link... anyone have it handy?

    Thanks.

FREE FOOD FOR STUDENTS: PAUSE TABLE!!
Every year, for the past few year - the Ecumenical Chaplaincy at Carleton organizes the "Pause Table" which offers free food to university students (and others) during exam period!

Guess what?! It's that exam-time of year again, which means free food!

The only catch is this: It only runs - Monday-Friday during the December exam period, from 10-2pm! So you should come get the free food before it's gone!

Free food includes: Bagels (and cream cheese), muffins, cookies, other baked goods and treats, fruit, instant soup, hot chocolate, coffee, tea - everything absolutely FREE!

    So once again:

What: Free food! Benefiting the university student, or whomever wants the food we've got to offer (Changes daily)
When: Monday-Friday during the exam period from 10-2pm!
    Where: Atrium, 4th floor Unicentre!
Who: The Ecumenical Chaplaincy on campus does this, food donations are provided by local churches
Why: University students need food. We're broke, hungry and stressed with exams - this is an easy way to get some food and to take a mini break!

If you have any questions, come by the Ecumenical Chaplaincy, T20 in the Tory Tunnel (by the seating area on 2nd Tory). Or you can email Wayne Menard (chaplain) at wayne_menard(aT)carleton.ca or call 613-520-4449

NO DONATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED BY STUDENTS!
NO CONVERSION or RELIGIOUS CONVERSATION NECESSARY! (Seriously, that's one of students concerns, I PROMISE no religious talk unless you bring it up!)

Come on out!!! Hope to see you there!!!!

(If you see me, say hello - I'm the woman in the wheelchair, who is wearing the awesome "Cat in the Hat" or "Where's Waldo" Santa Claus hat!!)

I am alumni, but I found an intriguing blog post which current students might find useful.
